Dirty Spears

Picking my Featured Ingredient this month was an interesting process as I knew it had to then translate into a cocktail. I played around with a lot of ideas for the very first Featured Cocktail and finally choose this one. As you are all aware I love all things 50’s and Mad Men inspired so it was a no brainer to have a Dirty Martini as the First Featured Cocktail. I have used pickled asparagus instead of olives, and some of the pickling juice which has turned this from a standard martini to a dirty martini. Have a go at making this, its simple to make yet looks very impressive and goes perfectly with any of my asparagus dishes.

Ingredients:

  • 30 mls of Kis Samphire Vodka
  • 30 mls of Kis Wild Gin
  • 30 mls of Dry Vermouth
  • 2-3 Tsp of pickling liquid (see pickled asparagus recipe)
  • 2 Pickled asparagus spears for garnish

Method:

1) Pour the Vermouth into your martini glass and chill in your freezer for about 5 minutes.

2) Fill your cocktail shaker 3/4 of ice. Pour Vodka, Gin and pickling liquid into your cocktail shaker, cover and shake hard 3 – 4 times.

3) Remove cocktail glass from the freezer and pour out the Vermouth. Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into the martini glass then garnish with the 2 asparagus spears.

Remember the secret to the perfect cocktail is to pour with love (and a little va va voom) xx
