I have always loved Middle Eastern Food, but always found it so daunting to create at home. That was until I went on this little show called MasterChef and met Samira! Samira is a larger than life woman who is one of the best cooks I have ever met, she introduced me to the world of Middle Eastern cooking and more importantly to the wonders of Ghee! This is one of the recipes that Samira taught me and I love adding this spice mix to my food to give it an exotic flavour that awakens the sensors and transports you to a place far away! Baharat is great on beef, lamb, fish, chicken and everything in between. Its also great on roast veggies and I even tried it in an ancient grain salad I made for a party the other week and everyone raved about it! I have really simplified this recipe, mainly so I could remember it off the top of my head, and I can guarantee that you probably have most if not all these spices already in your pantry! In this recipe I use pre-ground spices, you can use the whole spice just make sure that you toast them off before grinding them down. So if your looking for a new and exciting spice blend to try out or you want to impress that foodie in your life than give this a go!
1) Pour all the spices into a mix bowl and stir until well combined. Transfer to a sterilised jar for future use.
